Halifax Housing Market Heating Up

15th January 2016

According to AllNovaScotia.com,the Halifax Housing Market is heating up. Royal LePage realtors are forecasting that Halifax, Nova Scotia home prices will continue their steady climb in 2016.

The national brokerage is predicting average home prices will increase 2.5% in the city this year, says its 2016 House Price Survey and Market Survey Forecast just released. ‘It´s going to be improving sales volumes driving price growth this year’ said Matt Honsberger, a broker with Royal Le Page Atlantic. Honsberger said that the brokerage´s optimistic outlook is driven by positive economic reports and low interest rates. ‘I think we are going to have a strong spring. There are a few things going on in the city that will make it start climbing again, including the new shipyard workers who are starting to buy houses´, Honsberger said in an interview.

Home sales were up 3.2% in Halifax in November according to CREA figures released in December 2015.

In a another article from the leading Nova Scotia newspaper, The Chronicle Herald, another reason for signs of the Halifax market heating up is due to ‘a recent increase in the number of people moving home from Western Canada’ as well as ‘continuing demand from international students who want to stay in Canada after they graduate and whose families also immigrate’. According to the newspaper ‘condos remain popular with retirees and downsizing baby boomers. But there are indications that bungalows and townhouses could also become more popular with older and first time buyers’.

This is great news for Forest Lakes Country Club situated just 35 minutes from downtown Halifax and its International Airport. The resort development offers a mix of condos, townhouses and single-family homes designed to appeal to both local and international buyers. International investors have the opportunity via Landcorp International to purchase an investment plot today and either complete on the plot and build a home or take advantage of a contractual developer buy back.
